Jonny StokesThe 2016 season is now well underway and thus far has produced a mixed bag of results. After a good opening win in the County League Div 1 game against Houghton Regis the Club was brought back down to earth in the following game with an unexpected defeat away to Barton. But, as always, we picked ourselves up and recorded consecutive wins against Maulden, Bedford Borough and crucially Sandy Conservatives. The margin of victory against the latter (9-0) means that the Club is now in the driving seat in Div 1 and victories in the forthcoming games against Henlow and Stotfold should secure the Div 1 title again for the tenth time in 13 years, a fantastic achievement by any standards.

Sadly our participation in the Top Club and National Two Fours competitions was restricted to 1st Round exits at the hands of Sandy Conservatives (away) and Maulden (away) respectively. Both matches went to the wire and could have gone either way up to the last wood being bowled.

In the County Competitions Steve Brewer, Andy Geddes, Rollie Cawdell and Roger Manning made it through to the Quarter-Finals of the Fours only to lose out to Houghton Regis who subsequently went on to reach the Final. However, hopes remain high in the Triples were we are guaranteed a Triple in the Semi-Final given that Jack Cawdell, Jim Allen and Tom Cawdell find themselves drawn against John Pinnock, Eddie Swann and Dave Taylor in the Quarter-Finals to be played on Sunday, 3 July at Kempston. The Pairs and Singles competitions are now underway and the Club has the potential to do well in both competitions so watch this space.

Jonny StokesHowever, without doubt the highlight of the Season thus far was Jonny Stokes selection for the Disability Bowls England Team at the Home International Series in Scotland in June. Jonny’s progression since his move from Luton Coop to LTBC in 2014 has been dramatic to say the least. Jonny featured regularly in the Clubs winning teams in the Harmsworth Cup, Pell Shield and Div 1 League title successes last Season which combined with him coming Runner Up in the County Tompkins Cup (singles) has led to Trials earlier this year for the County’s Middleton Cup Team. Whilst England did not win the Home Series Jonny’s performances should secure him a place in the England Team next year. This is a great honour both for himself and Luton Town Bowling Club of which Jonny should feel justifiably proud.

More news to follow in July with hopefully more success to report.

Shoots, shoots, shoots!!!!!!

A comprehensive victory over Henlow (99-52) in June followed up by a hard fought victory away to Stotfold (85-80) in July secured the County League Div 1 title again for the 9th time in 13 years by the comfortable margin of 12 points over our nearest challengers Sandy Conservatives.

Victory in the County League enabled the Club to turn it’s attention to the Harmsworth Cup and Pell Shield competitions. Decisive victories in the Harmsworth Cup against Sandy Town (96-70) and Wilstead (87-52) secured a Qtr-Final match against Houghton Regis, a nail biting game that went to the wire with Houghton running out the victors by just 1 shot, 78-79. However, the Club had more success in the Pell Shield recording victories against Beech Hill, Bridgeman, Sandy Town & Houghton Regis thus securing our passage through to the Final where we came up against Maulden who we defeated 78-69 thus retaining the Trophy we had won the previous year.

Triples 2016In the County Competitions the Club enjoyed a good measure of success with Rollie & Jack Cawdell winning the Pairs Title against Sharnbrook by the margin of 25-21 and in similar fashion Dave Taylor, Eddie Swann & John Pinnock recorded a comprehensive victory over Beech Hill by the impressive margin of 28-9 to secure the Triples Title. Rollie/Jack and Dave/Eddie & John went on to represent Bedfordshire in the National Championships at Leamington Spa in August. These titles along with the success in The County League and Pell Shield serves to reinforce the Club’s status as the most successful club in Bedfordshire.

Pairs 2016On the County scene Dave Taylor, Daniel Hall, Jim Allen, Steve Brewer, Jack & Tom Cawdell and Roger Manning were selected to play for Bedfordshire in the Middleton Cup, a team captained by Rollie Cawdell which saw Bedfordshire progress to the Semi-Finals at Leamington Spa for only the second time in 20 years, no mean achievement.

To round the season off the icing on the cake was Jonny Stokes being named as Disability Bowls England ‘Player of the Year’ for 2016. For further information on his achievement log into Luton Today. To crown his season off Jonny has again been picked for the Trials which will be held at Gedling Indoor Bowls Club, Nottingham on 26 February 2017. Well done Jonny.

It's the start of another new season and the Town would like extend a warm welcome to their three new players Nick Taylor, Matt Bonsey & Dave Whelan! Nick and Matt are fairly new to the game, but have promising skill. Dave Whelan is an experienced bowler making a switch from Houghton Regis Bowls Club and is another fantastic addition to the ever growing roster of Luton Town Bowlers.

Jonny Stokes Tri-NationalsFirst a Big Congratulations to Jonny Stokes and the England Team for winning the Para Tri-Nations Disability Bowls Challenge! Next on to the County League news. The Town got the season off to a good start with a decisive Victory over Queens Works, with a score of 112-33. Unfortunately the next match was a close defeat by Houghton Regis (69-67). Over the following 3 games though Luton came back with all wins against Barton (88-53), Maulden (84-44) and Biggleswade Town (63-50). The next match against Sandy Cons could be a major deciding factor whether we win the league or not.

In the county fours Tom, Jim, Rollie & Jack bested our other 4 of Dave. T, Eddie, John, P & Dave. P in the extra end to go through to the semi finals. Once through to the semis they were up against Flitwick, where they put up a tremendous show and Flitwick ended up conceding after 11 Ends! They are now through to the Lemington County Fours, Good luck lads.

In the county Pairs we still have 3 teams in the mix (Bob & Tony, Dave. T & Dave.P, Tom & Jim) and a strong possibility of Luton colours being shown at the end of competition.

In the Pell Sheild Luton secured a decent Victory over Shefford (83-71) and are now through to face Sandy Con on the 9th of July. For the Harmsworth Cup Luton have recieved a bye and could either face Maulden or Kempston Hammers on the 26th of July. In the Crawley triples Andy Geddes' Team closed down a close victory (20-18)in round 1 and are now through to Round 2 on the 10th of July. More news on the County Domestic Competitions will be available over the next month or so, so be sure to check back.

Flitwick Gala Day 2017 WinnersEvery year there is a Gala day held at Flitwick and this year our boys "The Towners"(Dave Butler, Dave Taylor & Andy Geddes) managed to bring home the trophy. Good job guys!

Last but definitely not least Jonny Stokes has qualified for the finals at Leamington in the Disablity National Singles!

In other minor may have noticed the website has been going through a few changes the past few months. Well that's because the website editor/admin has changed hands and it's now kind of being remolded. Luton now has a Facebook page and will soon have a Twitter page too, you can check out and like our Facebook either to left of this post or visit "here"

Thanks for stopping by and be sure to check back at the end of next month for more Luton Town Bowls Club news!

Before we get on with the monthly news Luton would just like to give thanks to all of our sponsors for supporting our club this season so far, companies such as Spearhead Cars, GO Private Car Hire and WH Barley Transport. Every penny helps and if you would like to support our ever-growing club then you can contact us via the the contact page here.

It was a successful and extremely eventful month for the Town, starting off with big success in County competitions. In the County Triples two Luton sides (Jim, Tom, Jack vs Andy, Kev Rollie) faced off against each other and Jim's Team prevailed. They then went on to face Sandy Cons in the semi finals and pulled off a win in the extra end to go through to the finals! They then went on to win in the final and bag the trophy, good job lads!

Triples Winners 2017

After a great triples win it was down to the lads again plus rollie in the county fours this time and in true Luton style they nail another win with a score of 26-7, thus winning the final and becoming County Fours Champions!

Fours Winners 2017

After two great wins it was down to our two Luton Town boys, Dave Whelan & David Payne to duel it out in the 4 wood County Singles Final. Both played well but in the end Dave Whelan came out on top to beat David Payne and wins with a score of 21-5.

Singles Winner 2017

Now on the County league...we started off the month to great win over Sandy Con with a score of 72-54. Winning against Sandy gave us some serious momentum for our match versus Henlow, where if we win could put us in great standing to win the league. With an amazing show of skill Luton beats Henlow on all rinks 100-55 and securing the County League Division 1! Great job champions!

As well as winning the County League we have a huge chance of winning the Luton & District too. We started off the month with a match against Linslade and again we won on all rinks with a score of 47-89. Fast forward to our next game against Flitwick Away and we come away with another comfortable win, by winning on all rinks with a score of 58-95. In addition congratulations to Nick Taylor, Daniel Hall, Roger Manning & Tom Cawdell on securing a hot shot (winning by 8 in one end)! Our next match was against Dunstable who put up a great effort, but Luton wins by 11 shots in the end. Houghton Regis was our next L & D match and one of the closest yet...the final score was 86-84 to Luton!

Unfortunately the run of success came to an end this month in regards to The Harmsworth Cup. We nailed a fantastic win over Kempston with a score of 79-38 which put us through to face Barton in the Quarter Finals. It was a very close match agianst Barton but it just wasn't our night and they manage to beat us 69-67, maybe next year guys!

Finally a shout-out to Jonny Stokes of reaching the Disbility National Finals, but losing at the final hurdle. Unlucky mate we are really proud of you!

Last but not least a final update about the Luton Triples League...unfortunately both of our teams didnt win it this year but Luton B came a respectable second in the table and Luton A coming in at 4th, just about missing relegation! Houghton Regis became this years winners by winning all ten games.

It'll be coming up to the end of season soon and we haven't got that many games left, if you want to join our club next season then don't hesitate to inquire. Just pop over to our contacts page and give us a ring/email or likewise you can ping us a message on our Facebook page (see the widget to the left of this article).

That's all for this months update, I'll catch you next month folks! - Nick.

Luton Lads At Leamington

It was a great month (August) for Luton this year where we found 6 of our lads representing Bedfordshire & Luton at Leamington! There was Jack, Jim, Rollie & Tom in the fours and Jack, Jim & Tom again in the Triples. Then towards the end of this month we had David Payne & Dave Whelan both in the Singles! Lets start off with the story of the fours and triples.

The Triples

In the County Triples two Luton sides (Jim, Tom, Jack vs Andy, Kev Rollie) faced off against each other and Jim's Team prevailed. They then went on to face Sandy Cons in the semi finals and pulled off a win in the extra end to go through to the finals! They then went on to win in the final and bag the County trophy.

Jack, Jim & Tom then went on down to Lemington and won 19-11 against Somerset B in the First Round. That same afternoon they went on to face Kent B in the second round and with some cracking bowling they beat them 19-18! The very next day they faced Cumbria A in the Last 16 and with some bad luck and a great opposite skip they unfortunately lost 12-17.

The Fours

Next up is Jack, Jim, Rollie & Tom in the National fours. After some great bowling in the County they went on through to Leamington to face Dorset A in the First Round in the morning session. They went on to win this round 17-15 comfortably and thus advance them onto the second round - afternoon session. Unfortunately the afternoon session didn't go as planned and the lads were eliminated from the competition by Berkshire A with a score of 15-18.

The Singles

Dave Taylor-Dave Whelan-David Payne

After a great showing by the triples and fours teams, it was down to our two lads David Payne & Dave Whelan in the Singles to make the club even more prouder than it already is!

With a great show of skill by both Whelan and Payne in the county singles competition they managed to face each other in the County Final on the 30th of July. It was a great match but in the end Dave Whelan came out triumphant with a score of 21-15 and lifted the county singles trophy.

Fast forward a few weeks and both are down at Leamington. The week started off with David Payne in the Prelims against Northumberland B and what an amazing match that was! At one point he was 16-11 down and then crawled his way back to 20-19 down. He is then holding two shots with 3 woods still to come. The opponent has one final chance to secure the win but misses and with some great composure and bowling David wins the match! This means he now advances to the First Round the next day when Dave Whelan will also be bowling.

Come the next morning, both the Dave's set off with their first woods of the day and fight a hard battle the first 4 or 5 Ends. Payne was against Devon C and Whelan was against Nottinghamshire B. Unfortunately both of the opposition started to pull away and in the end both Dave's lost.

All of the Luton lads who represented us this year in the Nationals did the County & the club proud! Well done all and here's to next year and hopefully more Town success!

Luton Club Singles Final

This year Luton decided to hold it's club singles competition and the turnout for it was fantastic, with over 20 players signing up. The final of this competition was played on 28th and it was Eddie Vs David Payne in the end. The sun was out, we had a great turnout of spectators and overall it was a lovely evening. Unfortunately though there can only be one victor!

All through the match both Eddie and David was showing some great bowling, one would go two shots up...the other would go two shots up. Eventually though Eddie broke through and managed to secure the win with a score of 21-15! Check out the video below of the final three ends (alibeit a very shaky video with no audio).

So congratulations to Eddie this year for becoming the Luton Town Bowls Club Singles Champion and lets hope we can carry this on next year!

Jonny Stokes Through To The Next Stage of England Para Bowls Team Selection!

A big congratulations to Jonathan Stokes in reaching the next stage of the Disability Bowls England Test Trails, to be apart of the England Para team for the 2018 Commonwealth games in Australia! July of this year Mr Stokes recieved the letter he had been hoping for..."you have been nominated to participate in the process leading to the selection of the bowls England Para Bowls team for 2018"! After receieving the news he had been hoping for, he had a long road ahead of practice and preparation for the first stage.

This first stage of the selection process was on the 1st of October 2017 and entailed certain exercises and matches against other potential participants in a bid to show his skill and ability to the selectors. After this first process was over he eagerly awaited the call to let him know if he had been selected or not for the next stage. The phone call came and he had been selected for the next process!

Jonny accepting his England Cap from Greg Harlow above.

After receieving the news he wanted, he is now set to play against Wales & Scotland in the next stage. He will be arriving in Nottingham on the evening of Thursday 26th October 2017 to play on the 27th, 28th & 29th of October. If he is successful, he will then be called up to play for the England Para bowls team and will be attending training camps, in November, December 2017 & Feburary of next year. I spoke to Jonny Stokes and this is what he had to say below:

I recieved the invitation for the commonwealth games trials I was over the moon, even more so when I got selected for the next stage of the trial playing in a test event. I scored highly in the skill sessions in the morning and played well in the triples matches in the afternoon. I'm looking forward to the test event at the end of October, leading up to the event I will be getting plenty of practice time in plus all my mates have been advising me to relax and enjoy the experience.

has been a busy time for me recently having to work and bowl at this level at the same time. I feel I've worked hard at all levels throughout the year up to now, its had a big impact on the way I played in the first part of the trial which helped me being selected. I'm hopeful that all my hard work and practice leading up to this event pays off and I'm able to impress the selectors. Fingers crossed. - Jonathan Stokes

From myself and everyone at Luton Town BC, we wish you the best of luck mate and hopefully we will be seeing you on TV next year! #LTBC #JonnyInternational

A New Season Approaches!

A new season approaches and the guys at the club are busy working away to ensure the club runs smoothly and the green is in tip-top shape. Last year we had troubles with a fox/foxes digging holes in the green and decided something needed to be done about it. With an electric fence being out of the question to due some restrictions, money and safety the club decided to erect a mesh fence instead. The whole club chipped in to buy the fence and it was put up at the end of the season. Thank You ALL who donated!

Since putting the fencing up, touch wood we have had no major holes in the green and it looks like it has done the job! With a few of the lads working on the green weekly, especially Kevin Tift, expect it to look and bowl great this season! Another BIG thanks to Kev for all the work you've done and to everyone else who has helped him. As well as the green looking fantastic, there has been another revamp too and that's been the changing rooms. Andy Geddes and his Dad have kindly re-decorated the changing rooms and cleaned everything up. So the club has freshly painted and tidy changing rooms now, again another BIG thanks to them for doing that!

From close of season last year up until now the gents have been working tirelessly on the green and have managed to rectify the problems we had last year with the fox holes. We are pleased to annouce we now have 5 fully functioning rinks and it's the best the green has bowled and looked in years! A lot of work is currently being put into updating the gallery to make it more user friendly and easier to see pictures, so expect to see it all updated by next week!

At the start of the new season Luton Town BC have aquired some friendly and talented bowlers, perhaps the most influx of players we've had in years, the club would love to welcome; Ben Frost, David Frost, Joe Hannon, Terry Boniface, Stephen Harper, David Spilsbury, Joe Hannon, Patricia Mossman!

An Eventful Start To The Season

Before we get started with the news, unfrotunately one our newest members David Spilsbury passed away towards the end of last month. Everyone at Luton town BC sends their condolences to his wife and family.

It's been an eventful start to the season for the Town so far with everyone's Individual County competitions being played and also club matches being played, it's hard to keep up with what's been going on! Luckily for you everything you need to know about it all is on this site!

Every Luton Town BC fixture and result is posted on the Fixtures tab on this website, but we'll go over the latest briefly here. So far in the Luton & District league we have faced Flitwick where we drew with them at Home with a score of 81-81 and have also faced CO-OP and won that comfortability with a score of 56-111. In the County League we have played three matches. Our First match was against Sandy Cons where we won with a score of 63-68, second was against Henlow and we won again 85-52. Our latest match was agianst Meltis on their tricky green and unfortunately lost 53-71.

Luton are doing well in the Top Club so far with a 4-1 win over Flitwick in the Prelim round and then a 3-2 win against Sandy Town in Round 1! We are next Against Stotfold BC and that is to be played by the 24th of June, so check out our Facebook & Twitter page to be notifed when that is to be played by.

Before we wrap the news up, Well done to Johnny Stokes who represented Disability Bowls England This weekend and was apart of the wiining team!

If you want like to help support the club in regards to finance (sponsorship) or even if you would love to join our diverse and friendly club then be sure to pop on over to contact page and send us an email or give us a bell! Good luck to everyone playing in competitions and also to everyone playing this Wednesday in our first Harmsworth Cup match.

Luton Have 2 Fours At Leamington!

Both Of Our Fours 2018

Before we crack on with the club's latest news, Luton would like to Welcome our newest member Peter Bushnell!

The past few months have been pretty exciting and a lot has happened since the last front page news article. It's coming up to the end of the season now and we have played the majority of the games scheduled for us with the exception of a few games where unfortunately opponents have canceled. So far this season we've had roughly 3 games called off, so apologies to any of our new bowlers who were looking forward to these!

In the Luton & District league we currently sit second with 2 more games to play. So far Luton have 3 wins which were against; CO-OP, Linslade and Dunstable. One loss against Houghton Regis(current league leaders), where they beat us by 1 point! Finaly we have had one draw which was against Flitwick. We need to pull out 2 big wins to stand any chance of winning this league!

Our current 3 year reign as County Champions could be in jeopardy this season though as unfortunately we have lost once against Meltis on their own "green". Even though we are top of the league currently, everyone else still has a game to play. We just need to hope that luck is in our favour! At this current time though Luton are still unbeaten on grass!

In the Top Club compettition Luton had a good run with good wins in the early rounds over Flitwick (1-4), Sandy Town (3-2) and then Stotfold BC (2-3). In round 3 we faced up against Houghton Regis & pulled off a good win with a score of 3-2. In round 4 we faced off agianst Sandy Cons this time and unfortunately a run of good wins came to an end when they beat us 3-2.

In the Pell shield we had a similar fate where we beat Shefford and Wilstead but faced up against Sandy Con and lost 59-82. The Harmsworth Cup so far is a different story though! Luton beat Potton, Bedford Priory and Stotfold to get through to the semi final which was played yesterday Morning (05-08-2018). It was a cracking game and the away team pulled out some massive scores to secure wins on both Away rinks. The home team had a trickier game due to the green being super quick and swinging tremendously on both the end though home won on one rink and lost the other. This lead to a solid win overall of 85-72 and Luton are now through to the Finals which is against Meltis! Good luck to all playing.

Now on to the news you've all been waiting for...Luton once again are at Leamington in the National fours! Not just one rink this time though, we have two teams down at Leamington! The team of Tom Cawdell, Jim Allen, Rollie Cawdell and Jack Cawdell managed to retain their County title in an excellent match-up against our other rink which had Johnny Stokes, Dave Whelan, David Frost and Pete Agnew in it. Well done to both teams for getting through, the club are proud of you boys! If you can try to get down and support them on the 19th August at 2pm onwards and 20th August from 9:30am onwards then that would be fantastic!

County Fours Champs 2018

One last mention before we wrap up the news. Luton would like say congratulations to Jim Allen (from Luton BC) & his partner Dawn Grisely (from Potton) on winning the area final in the National Mixed Pairs! They are both now through to the final 16 down at Leamington starting on August 24th at 2pm. Good luck to you both!

That's all the club news for the moment ladies and gents, the next time this page will be updated will be at the end of the season when everything is wrapped up. If you would like to join our club then dont hesitate to message us. Until next time folks, take care and enjoy the rest of this hot weather!

Merry Christmas 2018

The outdoor seasoned ended a few monthes ago, Christmas is fast aproaching and the year is almost at an end. It's time for the end of year roundup and summary of how Luton Town BC has done this year. Don't forget you can always check out our previous front page news articles here!

2018 Harmsworth Cup Winners

Luton had a cracking year in regards to member growth and competition success, the main highlight of the year though for the club as a whole was Luton Town BC becoming the 2018 Harmsworth Cup winners! We faced Meltis over at Wilstead it was a tough final but in the end Luton came out on top! We would like to thank Wilstead for their hospitality, overall it was a fantastic day. Our gallery will eventually have some of the better photos from the day but you can always visit our Facebook Page to view every photo as soon as they are taken (Pretty Much)!

Success in the Harmsworth Cup was not the only thing we won this year though! We won the County Fours by beating one of our own fours, so yes you heard it right...we had TWO County fours team down at Leamington for the National Finals! Unfortunaly though both teams were knocked out in their first games, the boys have done the club proud and let's try to get two fours through again next year! Luton Town BC also won the County Triples Final and got through to Leamington 2 years running now we have had County Fours & County triples Champions! Whilst we are on the topic of Leamington news, Jim Allen from our club also got through to leamington in the mixed pairs with Dawn Grisley (Potton BC) but also like the other lads lost. It was a fantastic show from all this year and lets hope to recreate the success next year!

In the Monday Night Triples Knockout Cup we also had some more success with our 'A' Team winning that, so a super job there lads! Our annual club singles competition was played this year too and we had over 20 members participate! It was a superb comp and had some cracking games of bowls played. Dare I say it, it's one of the toughest competitions around in our county! ;) If you was tuned into our facebook feed you would know by now who won the competition. It was a final consisting of two Daves. Our club captain Dave Taylor & Dave Whelan faced off in the final battle of the season. Dave Taylor came out on top though and secured the win and is now the 2018 club singles champion! Great job to all who took part this year, hopefully we will see the same numbers (hopefully more) next year.

It has been another great year for the Town and we will be hoping to replicate this year's success next year, so if you want to be apart of our ever-growing team that is friendly and welcomes all skill levels then be sure to drop us a line, either on our Facebook Page or an email/call via our contact page here!

Everyone at Luton Town would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year! Bring on the bowls! #LTBC #PlayBowls

Multiple Work Parties, New Members & First Match Soon!

Before we crack on with the #LTBC news, the year so far has been a fantastic for us in regards to membership numbers and don't forget we are always accepting new members regardless of the time you join (we adjust membership prices based on how many months left). Luton Town BC would like to welcome all of the new members and returning previous members:

New Members

Returning Members

Over the past few weeks we have had a multitude of work parties down the club in an effort to make the green and it's surroundings secure, safe and more aesthetically pleasing. We started off in March with a massive party consisting of about 20 people and we put the benches out, tidied the surroundings and started the work on the paving slabs. Then on the following two weekends a few of the lads went down and finished off work on the paving and general work on the green/surroundings. Everything is now a lot safer around the green. LTBC would just like to thank everyone in the club who came down to help get the place in tip-top shape! Also a quick shoutout to our Thursday crew and Kev the green keeper for keeping the actual green in great shape! Each year the green is becoming better and better and in no time it will be one of the best greens in the county and this is due to the hard working guys who look after it.

Multiple Teams Through To Leamington!

As per normal the season got underway with a plethora of games and competitions. As well as the standard League matches (Luton & District,County etc) and friendlies, the club has been playing in the Harmsworth Cup, Top Club, Pell shield, two fours, London Southern Counties and finally everyone with their individual county games! Currently as typing this we are top of the County League with 3 games won, none lost and we are 3rd in the Luton & District league with 2 won games and none lost. Due to compeitions and the bad weather lately we are a couple of games behind so everything is still to play for in that league!

This year so far has been another smashing year for the Town in regards to County competitions. In the County Fours we had 2 teams in the quarter finals. One of the teams was a newly formed team this season consisting of newly joined members Matt, Joe, Alan and Nick with a combined experience of about 15 years between them all they managed to get to the quarters and put up a good fight all the way through the competition. Unfortunately they got knocked out in the quarters though...definitely a team to look out for in the future! Our other team of Dave W, Dave F, Jonny and Bob put up a cracking display of bowls and won their quarter finals match putting them through to the semi finals on the same day. The semi finals against Houghton Regis got off to a cracking start with the lads leading by quite a few shots at the beginning but eventually Houghton pulled it back a few. On the last end we were down one or two shots potentially ending our hopes of being in the final. Up comes Dave Frost with his first wood unfortunately pulling up short. With his final wood of the game he lines up, delivers and starts chasing it up the green by the looks of it he likes what he's seeing! The guys at the end look interested in it too and start cheering the wood on. The wood approaches the head, glides past the shot bowls and rests within inches of the jack and the crowd goes wild! This miracle wood from Dave Frost (Frosty) ends up winning them the game and putting them through to the Finals and esentially booking a spot at Leamington!

Following on from the success in the County Fours we tried to replicate the same in the County Triples. The Town went into the quarters with 3 teams, unfortunately though two of our teams had to play each other and alas only 2 of our teams could qualify for the semi finals. The teams facing each other was Dave T, Eddie and John P versus Tom, Jim and Jack. It was a great game with Tom & Co coming out top and advancing through to the semis. The other Luton Triples consisting of Roger, Dave F and Dan stormed through their quarter finals match and also advanced through to the semis. The semi finals had some more cracking bowls with Roger & Co storming through to the Finals with a score of 32-11! The other game with Jim & Co was a little bit tighter against Sandy Cons though and towards the end the opposition turned out their own woods and gave away shots to secure the win for the lads and leaving it with an ALL LTBC FINAL! #LTBC

So far we have 3 teams through to the National Championships at Leamington and still potentially could get more through with the pairs, singles and Top Club. These competitions are still ongoing though so if you want to remain up to date on news be sure to follow us on Facebook as it's updated almost instantly after games are played.

In other compeitions the Pell is still going strong, same with the Harmsworth Cup. The only thing so far that we have been knocked out of is the National Two Fours. This could possibly be a fantastic seasson for Luton, dare I say it the best?

A few side notes before we wrap the near future we will be adding a honours tab and hopefully adding more pictures to the Gallery so be sure to check back to see those!

Last but not least Congratulations to Bob Bennett for getting to Leamington for the first time!

Another Great Year For The Town!

Before we get started, Luton Town BC would just like to give a big thanks to the Luton Town & Indians Cricket Club for being so accomadating, friendly and understanding this year! Please head over and check them out here.

This year has been a great year for the Town again in regards to overall competition and league success but some results just didn't go our way this year. We had a great run in both the Pell shield, Harmsworth Cup and Top Club, one club always pipped us to the mark in all these competitions though...Sandy Cons!

Sandy Cons unfortunately this year have been a thorn in our side in competitions, starting off with the Pell Sheild. Luton advanced through to the competition and managed to get to the Semi-Finals, where we faced Sandy Cons. It was a close match up until a certain point and where Sandy started to pull away and beat us in the end with a score of 61-103. A big thanks to Andy 'Geddo' Geddes for stepping up as captain for this year(hopefully many more)! Then in the Harmsworth Luton had another fantastic run where we got to the Final! This was also against Sandy Cons, but with a much closer result! The whole match was extremely close all the way and it came down to a 1 point differance in the end and Sandy Cons won 85-86. Last but not least the Top Club. Luton advanced all the way through to the Regional finals so-to-speak, where we face up against once guessed it, Sandy Cons! Overall it was a great match but Sandy won both the single matches and the fours. Anyone who knows the Top Club comp well knows that if you can clinch both the singles, you typically have a good chance of winning the game. This is what Sandy did and beat us 3-2.

In regards to the Luton & District plus County League we faired a little better and was more of competition with Houghton Regis this time around. In the Luton & District league we won every game apart from one and that was against Houghton with a tight score of 74-77! This unfortunately lead to Houghton sweeping up and winning the league with no losses. County league wise was remarkably similar in regards to being a close fought league. Luton had won every game up until Henlow where they beat us with a home advantage of 66-56 and this meant we had to win flawlessly on every rink in our final game at Wilstead. In the last game of the season Luton ended up winning on 3 rinks and lost on 1. This meant Houghton Regis had to lose atleast one rink as Luton had a massive point differance and luckily Houghton Regis lost one and we won the County League on point differance!

With our disapointing results in club-wide competitions, we now come to the area where Luton Town BC excelled this year...National Comps! I will just summarise how we did or otherwise you would be reading forever. Feel free to check out the last news article where I go over how everyone did in quite a bit of depth. Below is a list of who managed to advance through to the National Finals at Leamington:

As you can see from the list above, we had quite a few through to the Championships! Luton's strength of depth is pretty amazing! Unfortunately all teams were knocked out in the first round down at Leamington, apart from Dan in the two woods who advanced to round two, but lost. A big congratulations and well done for all who played, you've done the club and County proud. Feel free to visit out Facebook Page where all the pictures from the competitions are at and don't forget to Like so you get up to date news when things happen.

As the the season comes to an end and all bowling has finished we focus on preparing the green and surroundings for winter and making sure the green is the best condition it can be for next year. Thanks to all the lads who came down and helped with all the work, the green is all prepped and ready for winter!

Luton Town BC Work Party 2019

Last but not least a few final notes. On the 11th of November we have the End of year club AGM down the Cricket Club at 7pm so if all current members could come that would be fantastic, thanks. Also if you havent grabbed a ticket for the end of season party then be sure to contact Eddie Swann ASAP as that is also coming up very soon.

Thanks for visiting the LTBC website, there will probably be one more front page news update before the year's End, then soon enough it will be time for another new season of Bowls! If you would like to join our ever growing competitive yet social club, then don't be afraid to contact us here!

COVID-19, Work Party & Change of Treasurer

There's not long left now until the new season starts and things get underway, or will it? With the current Pandemic of COVID-19 rearing it's ugly head, things right about now look rather worrying. At this moment in time we have no news from Bowls England in regards to postponing or cancelling matches, but there will be an Emergency meeting held by them very soon. The club will let all current members and any future members know if anything develops over the next few weeks! Just remember to take care of yourself, loved ones, people in your community and most of all don't panic.

On the 11th of April we are having a work party down the green to get everything ready for the new bowls season, so if you could all get down to help that would be fantastic even if it's just to help with making teas.

Last year our treasurer Tony Igle stepped down as Hon. Treasurer after many years of great work. Once again thanks for all you did for Luton Town BC and we wish you the best in the future whatever you do! With there being a vacant position someone had to step in and take on the Role as Treasurer for the club. In the end after a club vote Nick Taylor is now Hon. Treasurer for LTBC, if you need to contact him in regards to any matters you can head on over to our contacts page and his email and number are there.

Don't forget everyone that there is plenty of time to sign up and become a member of this fantastic club, we are friendly, social and also very competitive. So if you are an experienced bowler or new to the sport, you'll fit in here! Don't forget we have Facebook, Twitter and YouTube so feel free to contact us on either one.
